Discover what life was like for soldiers in the Victorian garrison’s barrack rooms, hospital and kitchen. Fort Nelson is a superbly restored Victorian fort overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. It is home to the Royal Armouries national artillery collection with over 350 historic guns on display. This incredible monument to Victorian defence wows visitors with its impressive history of military might and boasts guns of all shapes and sizes: everything from pre-gunpowder siege machines to the massive 200-tonne railway gun. Then when you need a break from all that adventure why not drop into Cafe 1871 for a relaxing cuppa.
